About viruses and common cold or flu
What are viral infections?
Viruses are tiny germs that can cause cold, flu, and as a result, cause sore throat, and other symptoms. These infections usually start when a virus enters your body and begins to replicate.
Your immune system is like a defense system inside your body — it defends your body by helping it in fighting infections and other diseases. Sometimes your immune system weakens and becomes more prone to infections.
The vast majority (~80%) of illnesses we call common cold & flu are caused by viruses. 1How do they work?
Viruses spread easily when someone infected coughs, sneezes, or touches surfaces after wiping their nose — and you then touch your eyes, nose, or mouth.
Once inside your body, they can infect your upper airway and generate a response from your immune system, leading to symptoms like a runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, tiredness, or fever. Most colds are mild, but the flu can make you feel especially weak and achy. After entering your system, viruses can quickly start to replicate. As more replicates build up, they can spread through you body and my cause more severe problems. 2How does my body works against the viruses?
It is the immune system’s job to slow and stop the virus, but sometimes viruses can replicate faster than what your immune system can handle. 3
Viral infection can cause symptoms like fever, tiredness, muscle aches, headache, and a dry cough. The infection mainly affects the breathing passages, and in some cases, it can lead to complications like bronchitis or pneumonia — especially in young children, older adults, or people with chronic health problems.4 If symptoms become severe or don’t improve, it’s best to contact a healthcare professional. How do I know if my infection is viral or bacterial?
The vast majority (~80-90%) of illnesses we call common cold & flu are caused by viruses. 1
Both bacterial and viral infections can cause similar symptoms, like feeling weak, having a fever, or experiencing muscle aches. That’s why it’s not always easy to tell them apart just based on how you feel.
Getting the right diagnosis early is important, because the treatment depends on the cause. Bacterial infections are usually treated with antibiotics, but these medicines don’t work against viruses. In fact, using antibiotics when they’re not needed can lead to antibiotic resistance, which makes future infections harder to treat. Only your doctor can determine whether your infection is viral or bacterial, often based on your symptoms, medical history, and sometimes lab tests.5Nevertheless, if you have a high fever, trouble breathing, chest pain, or symptoms that get worse or do not improve, see a doctor — especially for young children, older adults, or anyone with ongoing health problems.
What is an antiviral effect?
Antiviral effect refers to the ability to stop a virus from spreading in your body. This can happen by either directly blocking the virus from entering the body, slowing/blocking their replication & spread further or by helping your immune system work better so it can fight off the virus more effectively.
What does immune-strengthening (immune support) mean?
“Immune-strengthening” means helping your body’s own defense system work more effectively, so your body can fight infections more effectively.
Why is Groprinosin a good choice for fighting a viral infection?
Groprinosin’s active ingredient, inosine pranobex has antiviral and immune-supporting effects, and well-established safety. It helps to stop cold or flu causing viruses from replicating in your body and strengthens your immune system to fight them. It has been widely used since 1971 to help manage viral infections and related illnesses.8
